The Chocolate Watchband was a rock'n'roll garage band from the 60's and one of the San Francisco Bay Area's premier attractions.  This underrated band never reached that ever elusive superstardom, but in the years since have come to be known as the definitive psychedelic punk group with a global following.  In 1966, when their single "Sweet Young Thing" received a significant amount of  local airplay, their popularity exploded.  Few bands could match their hard-rocking live act that left an audience screaming for more.  The Chocolate Watchband was labeled as a Rolling Stones copyband because of  vocalist Dave Aguilar's take on Mick Jagger.  According to bass player Bill Flores, "Dave put on a better show than Jagger ever did in his life."  Styling themselves after the British rock bands, their Mod look was as important as their music.  This was guaranteed to leave teenage girls in ecstasy.  Take it from me, it worked.  Why else would I still be a fan of theirs after 30 years?  The Watchband's music was and still is great.  Not to mention, I dated guitarist Sean Tolby, a Brian Jones look-a-like.  The whole package worked its magical charm on me.  Click below for more about my history with the Chocolate Watchband.
